Professional Chimney Cleaning Services

What Clean Chimneys Mean For You

Your fireplace works the way it should. No smoke backing up into your living room. No strange smells when you’re not even using it. No lying awake wondering if that creosote buildup is going to catch fire.

Clean chimneys burn efficiently. You get more heat from less wood, and your fires start easier and burn cleaner. The air flows properly, which means smoke goes up and out instead of lingering in your home.

Most importantly, you have peace of mind. When creosote and debris are cleared out, when the flue is inspected and working properly, you can actually enjoy your fireplace instead of worrying about it.

Certified Chimney Sweep Northwest Harbor

We Know Chimneys Inside And Out

We’ve been keeping Northwest Harbor fireplaces safe and functional for years. Our certified technicians understand how chimney systems work and what can go wrong with them.

We’ve seen every type of chimney problem you can imagine. Creosote buildup that’s inches thick. Bird nests blocking flues. Damaged chimney caps letting water in. We know what to look for and how to fix it.

You’re not getting a quick brush-through from us. You’re getting a thorough cleaning and inspection from people who take chimney safety seriously.

Chimney Inspection And Sweep Process

Here's Exactly What We Do

We start with a complete inspection of your chimney system. That means checking the flue, the damper, the chimney cap, and the firebox. We’re looking for damage, blockages, and creosote buildup that could cause problems.

Then we set up our equipment to contain the mess. Drop cloths, plastic sheeting, and our vacuum system keep soot and debris from getting all over your house.

The actual cleaning involves brushes and rods specifically sized for your chimney. We scrub the creosote and soot from the flue walls, clean out any debris, and make sure air can flow freely from your firebox to the top of your chimney. After we’re done, we’ll show you what we found and explain any issues that need attention.

What's Included In Every Service

Every chimney sweep includes a thorough inspection and cleaning of your entire chimney system. We check your chimney cap, damper, smoke chamber, and flue liner. We remove all creosote buildup, soot, and debris that’s blocking proper airflow.

Northwest Harbor homes often have unique chimney configurations, especially in older properties. We’ve worked on everything from traditional masonry chimneys to modern prefab systems. Each type has its own cleaning requirements and potential problem areas.

You’ll get a clear explanation of what we found and what condition your chimney is in. If there are repairs needed, we’ll explain why they matter for your safety and how urgent they are. No pressure, no surprise charges – just honest information so you can make good decisions about your chimney.

How often should I have my chimney swept and inspected?

The National Fire Protection Association recommends annual chimney inspections for all homeowners. If you use your fireplace regularly – more than a few times per month during burning season – you should have it cleaned annually too. Even if you only use it occasionally, creosote still builds up and animals or debris can block the flue. An annual inspection catches these problems before they become dangerous or expensive. If you burn a lot of wood or use your fireplace as a primary heat source, you might need cleaning twice a year.
Creosote is a black, tar-like substance that forms when wood burns incompletely. It sticks to your chimney walls and builds up over time. The problem is that creosote is highly flammable – it’s basically fuel coating the inside of your chimney. When it gets hot enough, it can ignite and cause a chimney fire that reaches temperatures over 2000 degrees. These fires can crack your chimney liner, damage your home’s structure, or spread to other parts of your house. Regular cleaning removes this buildup before it becomes a fire hazard.
Several signs indicate your chimney needs immediate attention. If you see white staining on the outside of your chimney, that’s efflorescence from water damage. Smoke entering your room instead of going up the chimney means there’s a blockage. Rust on your damper or firebox indicates moisture problems. A strong odor from your fireplace, especially in summer, usually means creosote buildup. If you can’t remember the last time it was cleaned, or if you hear animals in your chimney, don’t use your fireplace until it’s inspected and cleaned.
Not when it’s done properly. We use drop cloths, plastic sheeting, and industrial vacuum systems to contain soot and debris. We seal off your fireplace opening and work from the top down, so most of the mess stays in the chimney where it belongs. You might see a little dust, but your furniture and floors should stay clean. The bigger mess happens when chimneys aren’t cleaned – that’s when you get smoke and soot in your living space, or worse, a chimney fire that damages your entire home.
Chimney cleaning requires specialized brushes, rods, and safety equipment that most homeowners don’t have. More importantly, it requires knowing what to look for during inspection. Cracked flue liners, damaged chimney caps, and structural problems aren’t obvious to untrained eyes, but they can be deadly if missed. We’re trained to spot these issues and know how to clean different types of chimney systems safely. The money you might save doing it yourself isn’t worth the risk to your family’s safety or your home.
Level 1 inspections are basic visual checks of accessible parts of your chimney system – this is what happens during routine annual maintenance. Level 2 inspections use cameras to examine the inside of your flue and include checking attics and crawl spaces. These are required when you’re selling your home, after a chimney fire, or when installing new appliances. Level 3 inspections involve removing parts of your chimney or home structure to access hidden areas – these only happen when serious problems are suspected. Most homeowners need Level 1 inspections annually, with Level 2 inspections for special circumstances.
