6 Common Issues a Chimney Company in Selden, NY Can Resolve

A well-functioning chimney is crucial for the safety and efficiency of your Suffolk County home’s heating system. Over time, chimneys can develop various problems due to regular use, weather conditions, and general wear and tear. Ignoring these issues can lead to serious consequences such as fire hazards, carbon monoxide leaks, and decreased heating efficiency. That’s why it’s essential to address any chimney problems promptly with the help of a professional chimney company like Ageless Chimney.

Here are six common chimney issues that our chimney company in Selden, NY can help you resolve.

Chimney Leaks

Water infiltration is a common issue that can damage your chimney’s structure and surrounding areas. Signs of chimney leaks include water stains, deteriorating mortar, and musty odors. Our expert team at Ageless Chimney can identify the source of the leak and provide effective solutions to prevent further damage.

Creosote Buildup

Creosote is a flammable substance that accumulates inside chimneys over time. It poses a significant fire hazard and should be removed regularly through professional chimney cleaning. At Ageless Chimney, we utilize industry-approved techniques and equipment to thoroughly clean your chimney and eliminate creosote buildup.

Damaged Chimney Liner

The chimney liner plays a vital role in protecting your Suffolk County home from the high temperatures and corrosive byproducts of combustion. A damaged or deteriorating liner can result in structural damage and increase the risk of fire. Our skilled technicians can assess the condition of your chimney liner and recommend appropriate repairs or replacement.

Cracked Chimney Crown

The chimney crown, located at the top of the chimney, acts as a protective barrier against water infiltration. Cracks in the crown can lead to extensive water damage and compromise the integrity of the entire chimney structure. Our team at Ageless Chimney has the expertise to repair or replace damaged chimney crowns, ensuring the long-term stability of your chimney.

Obstructions and Nesting Animals

Chimneys are susceptible to blockages caused by debris, leaves, or nesting animals such as birds or squirrels. These obstructions can obstruct proper airflow, leading to smoke backup, carbon monoxide buildup, or even chimney fires. Our professionals will safely remove any obstructions and install protective measures to prevent future blockages.

Structural Issues

Over time, chimneys can develop various structural issues such as cracked bricks, deteriorating mortar, or leaning stacks. These problems not only compromise the functionality of your chimney but also pose risks to the overall structural integrity of your home. As a full-service chimney company in Selden, NY, Ageless Chimney specializes in all types of chimney repairs, including masonry work, to restore the stability and functionality of your chimney.

Have a question?

The farmers who first moved to what is now Selden in the mid-18th century referred to the area as “Westfield” (or sometimes as Westfields). One of the better known early residents was Captain Daniel Roe (1740-1820), who fought in the French and Indian War and served as a captain in the Revolutionary War, and for whom Captain Daniel Roe Highway is named. Roe built a house in Selden along Middle Country Road before the Revolutionary War. Roe is buried in a small family cemetery south of Middle Country Road behind the Old Westfield shopping center.

From The Diary of Captain Daniel Roe, 1806-08 (1904), caption reads: “School house near home of Capt. Daniel Roe. Near the tree, at the right, tradition says the Tory Captain Richard Miller fell from his horse in 1776.”

Roe sided with the Patriots in the lead-up to the Revolutionary War. In the fall of 1776, Roe was assigned to lead a raid against the Tory and Hessian detachment near Selden led by his cousin Richard Miller. Miller was a wanted man, and Roe himself had pledged 10 pounds of the bounty offered for Miller’s capture. When Miller rode right by Roe’s house in uniform, he was confronted by Roe’s men and ordered to dismount. Instead, Miller fired his pistol and turned to flee, whereupon he was shot by the militiamen. Miller was then carried into Roe’s house, where he died.

A school district for the Westfield area was first created in 1815, carved out of the districts for New Village (now Centereach) and Coram. Originally named District 25, it was renumbered as District 12 in 1842, which it remained until the formation of the Middle Country Central School District in 1957.
