The chimney cap installation can enhance the appearance of your home’s interior by preventing damage to the interior and also preventing an open path to critters.

What Is A Chimney Cover?

The chimney cap usually sits just above the chimney’s crown, which sits on the chimney’s roof. The cap sits beneath the flue, the pipe that allows smoke to escape the building. A chimney that is not capped may let rain and other precipitation get into your home.

Most chimney caps and chimney chase covers are made from copper or steel mesh to protect the chimney and the house. Installing a chimney cap is an effective way to keep your chimney and home safe.

Why Is Professional Chimney Cap Installation Essential?

As a chimney service company, we have installed chimney rain caps for homeowners in various regions of New York County. Chimney chase covers will eliminate the debris and harmful materials entering your house.

There are many reasons which make chimney cap installation essential for homeowners. Let’s explore the reasons which make it an ideal choice for the chimney.

1) Saves Money

We like to be cozy and wrapped up during cold or snowy weather. Keeping your space warm can be challenging if you do not have chimney covers.

The reason is that when it’s windy and cold, downdrafts can alter the temperature in your home, and consequently, your energy costs can rise.

The cold winds are uncomfortable and can also cause smoke, embers, and ash to blow across your home and cause damage to the structure of your home. Your home’s temperature will decrease by installing a chimney cap, reducing your energy bills.

2) Stop Fires

Chimney rain caps can reduce sparks and thus keep fires out. The chimney cap stops the sparks from entering the chimney. However, it can also stop embers from traveling upwards and out of the chimney and onto rooftops, which reduces the chance of burning the roof.

3) Reduce Moisture

If you have an uncapped chimney and it starts raining, it will increase moisture levels within the home. The excess water accumulating inside your chimney may destroy your dampers, chimney liners, and the chimney’s mortar joint.

Moisture can cause damage to the ceiling and walls. In addition, it can drive the growth of mold and mildew that could spread throughout your home and could pose a health risk. If you install a chimney cover, you’ll avoid water damage to your structure that could likely cause expensive repairs.

4) Keep Animals Out

Some neighborhood creatures can be adorable; however, the fun doesn’t stop until you discover a raccoon or a baby bird living in your chimney. At the same time, you may be unsure if animals will be drawn to the chimney from smoke puffs because the warm, dark surrounding has been the primary entrance for animals.

If animals manage to get to your chimneys, they could get trapped and cause severe blockage and bad smells. A chimney rain cap can keep the animals from entering your chimney, and it will also save the cost of cleaning.

5) Keep Your Chimney Liner Clean

A chimney usually has the lining of clay, ceramic, or both and is primarily used to protect the chimney’s walls and contain debris and smoke. Chimney liners restrict the heat transfer inside the chimney, eventually keeping fire and dangers out.

A fireplace cap can assist in maintaining the chimney liner by minimizing the quantity of debris and water that enters the chimney. This helps preserve the performance of your chimney and is less expensive than fixing the damage to your chimney liner.

Some information about Lower Manhattan, NY

Lower Manhattan, also known as Downtown Manhattan or Downtown New York, is the southernmost part of Manhattan, the central borough for business, culture, and government in New York City. Lower Manhattan is defined most commonly as the area delineated on the north by 14th Street, on the west by the Hudson River, on the east by the East River, and on the south by New York Harbor. The Lower Manhattan business district, known as the Financial District, forms the main core of the area below Chambers Street.

The area that would eventually encompass modern-day New York City was inhabited by the Lenape people. These groups of culturally and linguistically identical Native Americans traditionally spoke an Algonquian language now referred to as Unami.

European settlement began with the founding of a Dutch fur trading post in Lower Manhattan, later called New Amsterdam (Dutch: Nieuw-Amsterdam) in 1626. The first fort was built at The Battery to protect New Netherland.

Soon thereafter, most likely in 1626, construction of Fort Amsterdam began. Later, the Dutch West Indies Company imported African slaves to serve as laborers; they helped to build the wall that defended the town against English and native attacks. Early directors included Willem Verhulst and Peter Minuit. Willem Kieft became a director in 1638 but five years later was embroiled in Kieft’s War against the Native Americans. The Pavonia Massacre, across the Hudson River in present-day Jersey City resulted in the death of 80 natives in February 1643. Following the massacre, Algonquian tribes joined forces and nearly defeated the Dutch. The Dutch Republic sent additional forces to the aid of Kieft, leading to the overwhelming defeat of the Native Americans and a peace treaty on August 29, 1645.
